Clare's Tribute

Created by Clare 4 years ago

Anyone who has seen dad deliver a eulogy, knows how brilliant he is at them and he knew it too.
We once jokingly asked him who we should tap up for his. He thought about it for a while, all of two seconds, and then said “Don’t worry, I will record it myself before I go.” So, we really want to thank our Uncle Robert for doing him so proud today.

I know dad didn’t not record his eulogy because he wasn’t serious and certainly not because he wasn’t organised- in fact he has made today so easy for us as everything he wanted, he detailed and trust me there have been lots of instructions!
Dad didn’t record it, because there is no one in the world who loves life like our dad, he took pleasure in everything, from a simple pint with his friends to all their amazing travels, through hard times and all the wonderful times, our dad just loved life and embraced every second of it, he is and will always be both unique and amazing.

Pops told us that epitaphs are for the famous or for those that have left their mark in the world, which he had not. Well Lawrence as you can’t argue with me now, I can tell you - you were wrong, because you left your mark on so many, some with us today. And we know you will live on through your lovely friends, beautiful grandchildren, the three of us and of course your darling Bren.

One of the many instructions that dad left us was how to mourn or not. Dad did not want it. He just wants to be remembered and us all to be happy we knew him.

Our home is a happy one, we didn’t always have a lot but material stuff never mattered to mum and dad. Whenever anyone came over, they were always welcomed, fed and watered but most of all there was never a shortage of love.
In the words of Freddie Mercury “Those were the days of our lives!”  but it’s not all over now (Mick Jagger)…

...As heartbroken as we are, we know that love will never leave. We all feel a tremendous amount of love and pride to know you, call you a friend but most of all that you are and will always be our 'Pops'.
